As manufacturers increasingly opt for recycled fiber mixes and closed water circuits, accurate charge measurement has become a key element of process control.

That’s why BTG continues to add new levels of functionality to its renowned Mütek range of streaming current detectors for colloidal dissolved and fiber charge.

Our PCD Particle Charge Detector is the most widespread streaming detector in use worldwide, because of its ability to accurately measure charge at high conductivity. And by accurately detecting the surface charge of fibers and fillers, our Mütek SZP-06 System Zeta Potential has become the industry benchmark for charge measurement in the lab – technicians refer to it as the ‘zeta for fiber charge’.
Leading mills rely on Mütek detectors for one very simple reason: accurate measurement of samples before and after contact with chemical additives evaluates the efficiency of chemical dosing, delivering big savings on unnecessary additives while improving overall quality.

BTG’s Mütek PCD for colloidal charge is so popular industry-wide that charge measurements are often referred to as ‘Mütek numbers’.

Our latest model PCDs – the Mütek PCD-04 standard version and Mütek PCD-04 Travel – offer a wide range of sophisticated capabilities:

The PCD-04 is ideally suited to

  • R&D labs of chemical suppliers and paper mills
  • Education facilities like universities, institutes or schools
  • Applications outside the paper industry, such as the food & beverage, ceramics, surface technology and textile industries

The Mütek PCD-04 standard is the perfect choice for mills and labs looking for versatile, flexible charge measurement. In situations where the very highest levels of accuracy and reproducibility are needed, customers can also choose to link the Mütek PCD-04 standard version with the Mütek PCD-T3 automatic titrator – best with our sophisticated LabX software for precision, complex data handling and storage according to Good Laboratory Practice.

Accurate results on the move!

For those who favor a portable solution, the PCD-04 Travel is a streaming current detector plus automatic titrator in one, combining proven PCD features with a built-in titration module to facilitate easy and reliable charge measurement onsite.

Titrant cartridges for the PCD-04 Travel come with different poly-electrolyte standard solutions, certified by our application laboratory: anionic PES-Na and PVSK, as well as cationic Poly-Dadmac, all available in a range of concentrations. Each cartridge is automatically recognized by the PCD-04 unit, and empty cartridges are also available which you can fill with the titrant of your choice.

Easy handling of all your charge measurements!

New Mütek ChargeView

To make collecting, comparing and storage of results from the PCD-04 Travel and SZP-06 as powerful and flexible as possible, BTG’s new Mütek ChargeView software offers advanced functionality including:

Graphic display of cationic demand and zeta potential via tables and charts – which can be easily exported to Excel

Get the most out of your investment!

Knowing your equipment and how to respond effectively when incidents occur is critical to minimizing costs and downtime. That’s why BTG offers expert training in Mütek PCD and SZP instruments, conducted at your own premises according to your required schedule, or, if you prefer, at BTG’s training centre in Herrsching.

BTG’s specialized training in the correct use of measuring equipment and interpretation of results helps you optimally tune your process to maximize production quality and volumes while minimizing costly overheads. Just another way we’re working with you to raise your productivity.
