State-of-the-art consistency transmitter supports unique TMP screening strategy
A leading Swedish paper mill is harnessing the unique properties and performance of BTG’s TCR-2300 Total Consistency Transmitter to optimize its TMP screen house.

Figure 1:
TCR installation points for an optimized screening strategy. The probe of the TCR is mounted directly into the process line, and is ideally located just after the pump in turbulent flow. A digital signal processor and advanced signal treatment means the transmitter delivers fast response and reliable output signal across a wide consistency range from 0.5 to 7%.
A Swedish newspaper mill with a capacity of 700,000 t/y has chosen BTG’s TCR-2300 as the basis of a new advanced screening strategy (see Figure 1).
Highly accurate mass flow calculations at both inlet and reject are a prerequisite for the optimal setting of the ratio between inject and reject. And because the consistency gradient from inlet to outlet is highly dependent on this ratio, maintaining exactly the right level at all times is essential for top performance.
That’s where BTG’s TCR-2300 really comes into its own. The TCR measures true total consistency, regardless of variations of the fiber and fines fractions – an indispensable requirement for accurate mass flow calculations.
Featuring BTG’s patented Peak Method for optical analysis, the TCR is virtually insensitive to variations in filler and fines content as well as changes in fiber properties, making it suitable for use in the stock preparation area in mechanical pulp processes as well as a range of other applications.
The TCR-2300 is not only helping the Swedish mill achieve stable inject and reject conditions, but also maximum shive reduction and maximum production through the screen. Controlled freeness drop over the screen is another important benefit.

TCR-2300 benefits:
- Based on BTG’s world-renowned, patented Peak Method for accurate measurement of true total consistency from 0.5-7%.
- Operates independently of process variables – freeness, process pressure, air, flow, color, conductivity
- Responds rapidly to process changes and quickly stabilizes the process
- Levels very quickly after start-up and grade changes
